It’s the first full week of fall and the last week of September.  Social media is exploding with fall décor and autumn outfits.   Many of us make a switch in our closets; we rearrange and take stock of what we have to wear as the weather cools.  Many of us make a switch in the décor of our living spaces.  What if we did the same in relation to wellness & fitness?

Take a little time to re-arrange, take stock, and make some seasonal switches. Continue reading for five simple tips.

  • Since you are already rummaging around in your closet or clothing storage, might as well take a closer look at your workout clothing.  Now is a great time to add a new pair of leggings or pieces for layering in preparation for cooler weather workouts or walks outdoors. Yes, we still need to spend time outside when it’s cold…unfortunately!  Assess your shoes too; they should be replaced periodically depending on wear and tear.

  • How’s your pillow?  May seem to be a strange question but sleep is a critical component to your fitness goals.   Inadequate rest can delay and, in some cases, reverse progress.   Pillows that become too flat or lumpy are no longer conducive to sleeping well.   You flip and punch your pillow night after night thinking, "I need to replace this." Yet, you don’t.  Here’s a reminder to do it!

  • Invest in some inexpensive fitness equipment to help you stay on track with workouts when the weather takes a turn for the worse and you can't make it to your trainer or favorite class. (Winter is coming and, yup, I’m mad about it.) I highly recommend resistance bands.  You don’t have to spend a ton of money to get an effective, full-body workout at home.   Not sure about using resistance bands?  No problem! I can show you at my upcoming workshop on October 20th.  RSVP on Facebook or e-mail me!

  • Give your fridge some attention this fall.  Check expiration dates on old condiments and other foods. Discard as needed.    Re-arrange to allow fruits, veggies, and other nutritious foods to take front and center.  I don’t know about you but I reach for fewer fruits and vegetables once it gets cooler.  It helps when they are in my face when I open the fridge.  Same goes for the freezer.  Take stock. Throw out. Re-arrange.

  • Do some seasonal switching in your kitchen cabinets.   Consider getting rid of "junk" foods that you know you are gonna want to inhale one cold, gray, rainy day.  Replace with better comfort food options that align with your goals.   Take stock of your pantry for items you may need for fall cooking:  tomato paste, chicken stock, and various spices, for example.

There you go - five simple tips to include a bit of health and wellness in your seasonal switch.  Will you implement any of them?  I am definitely tackling my fridge one evening this week!
